May his soul be bound in the bond of life

1. Old Biblical Hebrew sounds Cryptic in a way, both in English and Hebrew.

The text (on the upper side) is a part of the blessing Mosses blessed the tribes of Israel before he died. The Adlers are descendants of the Levi tribe as we know.

“And of Levi he [Mosses] said: Thy Thummim and Thy Urim be with Thy holy one, whom Thou didst prove at Massah, with whom Thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah;”    (Deuteronomy, Chapter 33 v8)

The Urim and the Thummim - - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urim_and_Thummim  . In short, these are “devices” that help to communicate with God. For an Orthodox Jew that is very nice to have that on gravestone.

2. Rabbi Yechiel Aryeh  “Rabbi” is not necessary a “Rabbi”, it could be a title of honor. Aryeh, a lion, another word for Jehuda. Leib=Lion=Aryeh=Jehuda. The name Leib is on the other side of the gravestone.

3. Rabbi Baruch Halevi the name of the father of Michael Leib Halevi Adler, but also of the name of Baruch Adler, father of the four siblings we know: Mathilda, Berta, Lina, Albert .
