Shalom Yair,

Udi informed me of the passing away of Siddi.

It's been many years since I last saw your grandmother, Siddi, but I do remember her very well from the years when we used to visit her, and your family in Kiryat Bialik. You were just a toddler in those days, the early sixties, and I was rather a youngster myself. Over several decades we would come to Siddi and her family for weekends and holidays. She was always nice to me and I enjoyed our visits to her home very much.

Gradually our family grew as well, and our children would join on those trips. Your grandmother was a very nice host to all of us, always smiling and joking, and most of all ready to feed the whole horde with fine German home cooking.  I can still see myself in Siddi's kitchen rolling endless numbers of kneidlach for the Sedder with the aroma her soup steaming up like no other I have known.

I know Siddi went through many hardships in her life, and unlike so many other "Yekkes" managed to adjust to the strains of living in the Middle East with a strong and vivacious personality. For many years Siddi was the binding glue and the person to lean on for all of us.

I hope she passed away peacefully, I shall always cherish her memory.

Please give my best regards to your parents, Yael and Anat,

Yours,

Carol
